In general, the term reference has two meanings: One meaning is that it is the relation between various utilities in which one utility is nominated by associating with other utility. Such relations may occur in a lot of fields like logic, computer science, time, art and scholarship. For example, we use the phrase “In reference to this context” means “in relation to a particular context!"
The second meaning may imply that the term connects one linguistic expression with the another. In this context, one linguistic expression provides all the necessary information to interpret the other. At the same time, reference also indicates a person's ability to think of and represent objects in front of the whole world. The term lets individuals to indicate to others which of these objects they are informing about, and to know as to what others are talking about.
When you will surf various books in a library, then you will find that the word reference may refer to a dictionary, an encyclopedia or other reference work, that is geared up with a lot of content work in the form of articles, providing information in a book or books. Sometimes, people use the term to connote a book that can't be taken outside a library, either because they are too large or valuable to loan out. Some of the synonyms of the term are: advertence, allusion, associating, attributing, bringing up and connecting.
