Oceania, that is also termed as Oceanica, is a geographical area that consists of diverse lands, that are mostly located in the Pacific Ocean and its vicinity. Traditionally, the area is arrayed with three main regions. They are: Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia. But if we look from the scientific point of view, scientists and geographers divide Oceania into Near Oceania and Remote Oceania. The term "Oceania" came into existence in the year 1831 by French explorer Dumont d'Urville. Oceania is decked with two types of islands. The first one are the coral islands that are located at the tops of coral reefs and the second one, perhaps the more adventurous ones, are known as volcanic islands. They serve the peaks of volcanic mountains that rise from the ocean floor.
